Tom Day, co-founder of The Vitamin Bridge, often says, “It takes an army to do the work of The Vitamin Bridge.” Our growing partnerships with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Vitamin Angels are perfect examples of what that means in action.
The Vitamin Bridge has welcomed several new program partners this year, including MyCHN, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving communities across Southeast Texas. FQHCs are community-based healthcare organizations that receive federal funding to provide comprehensive care in underserved communities. We currently support four FQHC organizations, each with multiple locations, and we see partnerships with FQHCs as an important opportunity to expand The Vitamn Bridge’s reach and impact.
MyCHN is dedicated to providing excellence in care and service through 21 clinics across Brazoria, Harris, and Galveston counties. The organization offers a broad range of services focused on whole-person care, including prenatal care through its OB/GYN practice at several locations. Through this important part of MyCHN’s work, The Vitamin Bridge is able to help reach even more women and families who need support during pregnancy.
Our ability to serve FQHCs is made possible through our partnership with Vitamin Angels, a California-based nonprofit focused on improving maternal and child nutrition in underserved communities around the world. Vitamin Angels’ US focus is providing multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS), commonly known as prenatal vitamins and minerals, to pregnant women. These supplements help support healthy pregnancies and can reduce the risks associated with birth defects, low birth weight, and infant mortality.
As a Vitamin Angels program partner, The Vitamin Bridge receives donated prenatal vitamins that help make our work with FQHCs, county health departments, and other community partners possible. This collaboration allows us to place essential prenatal vitamins directly into the hands of women who may otherwise struggle to access them.
Partnerships like these are at the heart of The Vitamin Bridge’s mission. By working alongside organizations that are already serving women and families in their communities, we can extend our reach, remove barriers to prenatal nutrition, and help more mothers have access to the vitamins they need for a healthy pregnancy.
It truly takes an army – and through partnerships with FQHCs like MyCHN and organizations like Vitamin Angels, that army continues to grow. Together, we are expanding our work across Texas and beyond, one mother, one baby, and one community at a time.
