Many years ago, Vitamin Bridge co-founder Tom Day had a business meeting with Roger Gault. At the time, Tom was a banker and Roger worked in real estate development. Both had dark hair then, and only one still does today. What began as a professional meeting quickly grew into a lasting friendship.
If you happen to know Roger or Tom, ask them about the lunch where they found themselves unexpectedly emotional while bonding over their shared love of family pets. It is a story worth hearing.
Friendships like Roger’s help create opportunities for The Vitamin Bridge (TVB). Six years ago, shortly after TVB was founded, Roger introduced the organization to the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Foundation (PHPC Foundation) as a potential grant partner. Founded in 1990 by a group of visionary church members, the PHPC Foundation was created to ensure the long-term stability of the church through a dedicated investment fund separate from its operating budget. Today, it manages more than fifty endowed and non-endowed funds.
At the time of that initial introduction, TVB was still in its early stages and did not receive funding. However, with a proven track record now established, TVB’s Development Coordinator, Hope Miller, reapplied for funding last fall. This time, the PHPC Foundation responded with a generous grant, enabling TVB to expand its efforts to provide prenatal vitamins to women across Texas.
We are deeply grateful for their support. Together, we will help deliver essential prenatal supplementation to thousands of pregnant women and their unborn babies throughout the state.
Would TVB have connected with the PHPC Foundation without Roger’s introduction? Perhaps, but it is unlikely. Church foundations are relatively uncommon, and meaningful connections like this make all the difference.
Is this story unique? In one sense, yes. Tom cannot recall another lunch where he was moved to tears over a conversation about family pets. In a broader sense, it reflects something we see every day: a network of dedicated individuals who give their time, resources, and connections to advance our mission. People like Roger help make this work possible.
There is truly an army behind TVB, and Roger is one of the many we are so thankful for.
