A friend of mine has an extensive vocabulary and I am impressed with his elegant use of many descriptive terms. Taking a page from common spelling bee practices, I’ll often times ask him to spell the word, define it, and use it in a sentence. Take the word catalyst, for example.
Spell it: C-A-T-A-L-Y-S-T
Define it: A person or event that quickly causes change or action.
Use it in a sentence: A weekend gathering of old friends proved to be a catalyst for The Vitamin Bridge.
Earlier this fall, I joined a group of college friends (fraternity pledge brothers) for a weekend together. Life updates were shared and old stories retold, many ending in spontaneous laughter which is good for the soul and blessed us all.
During dinner, one of the men shared his interest and appreciation for The Vitamin Bridge and its work in meeting a critical need. He then challenged the group to consider supporting The Vitamin Bridge and many responded. Little did I know that this weekend event would serve as a catalyst in kicking off what is proving to be a successful giving season for The Vitamin Bridge.
While deeply appreciative of my friendship with this group of men and their support of The Vitamin Bridge, I can’t help but ponder how The Vitamin Bridge prenatal vitamin donation program is a catalyst for the women that we serve. Not only do prenatal vitamins provide important nutrients to moms and their babies during pregnancy, but we’re repeatedly told by the front-line organizations through which we partner that the gift of prenatal vitamins moves the recipient moms toward healthy pregnancy habits.
I am grateful for my college friends and our recent time together. The Vitamin Bridge truly appreciates their involvement and support. Moreover, I value the moms to whom The Vitamin Bridge donates prenatal vitamins. It’s an honor to serve alongside so many in being a catalyst in their lives.
